Support Coral Kids
Coral Kids is a long-term documentary and visual arts project in Aitutaki, created by artist and filmmaker Raquel Trejo with Grow Aitutaki and Aitutaki Coral Restoration. It follows children, families, and community mentors as they describe lagoon life through photographs, writing, and conversations.
The project is in development. You can support its next stages by donating funds, cameras, or film, or helping with processing and printing.
How your support is used
Financial donations help pay for cameras, underwater cameras, 35mm film and processing, and photography workshops with children. They also support printing photographs, zines, and children’s books.
Other costs include digital storage and archive development, travel and fieldwork in Aitutaki, mentorship, project development and editing, and website and documentation costs. Support also helps fund community screenings and local presentations.
Camera and film donations
For the next trip, donations of 35mm film are especially welcome. The children’s photographs will contribute to future zines, prints, and archive material.
We also welcome simple point-and-shoot film cameras, compact digital cameras, and underwater digital cameras, especially Olympus Tough and TG models. Memory cards, camera straps, batteries, and chargers are useful too, as is help with film processing and printing.
If you have a waterproof camera sitting in a drawer, we may be able to put it to work.
The children use cameras in the lagoon, on outings, and during workshops. Simple, durable cameras help them try ideas, learn through mistakes, and make their own photographs.
